Lithogen offers the Radiodetection acoustic water pipe and leak detector system, the RD510 with Pulsed Water Transmitter, for rent in Canada and the USA, and for purchase within Canada.
The RD510 water pipe locator and leak detector is the ideal tool for difficult to locate pipes, particularly plastic pipes that have no tracer wire and no option to insert a sonde. Depending on soil conditions and how much acoustic noise exists, it is able to locate pipes and leaks up to 5m below ground surface. The instrument can store sounds or images, allowing you to provide information digitally to your clients.
It is not recommended that the PWT be operated inside buildings as the dramatic changes in pipe pressure can damage pipes. However, opening a faucet and letting the water run in the pipe is usually sufficient to trace the pipe with the RD510 inside a building by following the sound of water flowing in the pipe. You can also connect the PWT using an external tap with the tap only partially open to reduce the pressure changes within the building-internal pipes.
